The Lancia Beta was a car produced by Lancia. It was the first Lancia produced by the company after it had been taken over by Fiat in 1969.

The company chose the name Beta for a new vehicle to be launched in 1972. The choice of name symbolised a new beginning as it reflected the fact that the company’s founder, Vincenzo Lancia (1881–1937), utilized letters of the Greek alphabet for his early vehicles - such as Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta, & so on. ''Beta'' had been used before, for Lancia’s 1908 car & again for a 1953 bus. Lancia had previously utilized the first letter of the Greek alphabet, Alpha, but this was not chosen for the new 1972 Lancia due to the obvious confusion it might cause with Alfa Romeo.

They did exist, but were shameless rusters. There are some still around, maintained by dedicated owners.

l owned a Lancia Beta Coupe in the 70 is a it was not a rust bucket as many predicted. It was quick, relatively economical and fun to live with.

They were really nice cars in their day, but ultimately led to the demise of the Lancia brand in the UK. Like a lot of 70 is Italian cars, u could actually hear them rusting away on a quiet night, the weak spot on the Beta was the area around the engine mounts. They rusted so badly that owners were experiencing engines dropping out of the car before it even had it is first MOT!
Lancia did honour warranty claims & actually bought back quite a lot of cars, but the damage was done & the brand never recovered its image in this country. A shame, because today is Lancias r good cars, but we just do not get them here.
